Data Warehouse Specialist / ETL Developer, Olathe, KS

Duties: Build complex software models that extract data from multiple source systems before being transformed and populated into the data warehouse. Work collaboratively with key business users to understand their information needs for building and enhancing the data warehouse. Translate functional requirements into technical design documents and develop ETL solutions which follow the software development process and best practices. Perform data profiling of source systems to assess data quality, integration risks, and metadata discovery. Develop scalable ETL solutions with consideration to business rules, fault-tolerance, and error logging. Develop ETL audits and controls to ensure quality of data meets or exceeds standards defined by business team. Estimate and plan work for all phases of the software development lifecycle. Prepare unit and integration plans for different ETL modules and execute the same. Design test plans to verify that all developed solutions align with defined business requirements.Must develop and communicate a technical vision that is easily understood by all levels of management. Implement performance improvement techniques such as data partitioning, data clustering, parallel processing, and indexing to reduce response time for high volume tables.Conduct root cause analysis for reported issues and identify impacted subject areas.Account and handle various aspects of data warehouse maintenance such as platform upgrades, data growth, data model revisions, and information delivery enhancements.Effectively communicate and interact with other technical personnel while solving complex business and technical problems. Adhere to timelines during all phases of the software development life cycle.Generate ad-hoc reports for end users by writing complex SQL queries. Perform other duties as assigned by management. Requires: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems,Engineering, or related, plus 5 years of related experience. Alternatively, the employer will accept a Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, Engineering, or related, plus two years of related experience.Related experience must include: two years of work experience in data warehousing with exposure to one or more ETL technologies (such as IBM DataStage, Informatica, or Oracle Data Integrator (ODI)), and three years of work experience with Relational Database Systems (RDBMS) technologies such as Oracle or MS SQL Server; two years of combined work experience with Scripting Languages for ETL (such as UNIX Shell Scripting or Python).Experience must also include: usage of data warehousing concepts with regards to requirements analysis, ETL design, metadata models, dimensional modeling, implementation of database physical models, and other maintenance activities; proficiency in performance tuning and writing complex SQL queries; and use of the software development life cycle (SDLC) and experience developing complex IT projects.Local travel may be required to perform work at client locations at least 50% of the time.
